Cyberpunk 2077 Main Characters and Their Voice Actors
Cyberpunk 2077 voice actors bring Night City's main characters to life, ranked from 10 to 1.
I’ve spent over 200 hours wandering the neon-drenched streets of Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 since its 2020 launch, and even after the massive 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty DLC dropped in 2023, one thing still blows me away: how perfectly the voice acting brings every gritty, flawed, unforgettable character to life. CD Projekt Red didn’t just cast random actors for these roles—they picked people who could capture the raw, chaotic, and deeply human energy of Night City’s residents, making every quest, romance, and betrayal feel personal. Let’s break down the main characters and the talented voice actors behind them, ranked from 10 to 1, based on how seamlessly their performances fit their roles.
First up at number 10 is River Ward, voiced by Robbie Daymond. If you’ve played through River’s questline, you know he’s a breath of fresh air in a city where almost everyone is willing to sell out their morals for eddies or power. A former detective and cop, River is earnest, loyal, and unapologetically honest—even when it puts him in danger. Daymond’s voice is warm but firm, perfectly balancing River’s quiet strength and his underlying grief over his sister’s death. Daymond is no stranger to iconic roles, either: he’s voiced characters in Hi-Fi Rush, RWBY, Bleach: TYBW, and even played Dorian Storm in the hit D&D web series Critical Role.
At number 9 is Goro Takemura, voiced by Rome Kanda. Takemura is the disgraced Arasaka bodyguard you meet in the game’s opening hours, and his arc from loyal enforcer to vengeful outcast is one of the most compelling in the story. Kanda’s gruff, sharp voice is ideal for Takemura—he sounds like a man who’s spent years following orders, even when they go against his own sense of honor, and his frustration and rage as he’s betrayed by Arasaka come through in every line. Kanda is a comedian and actor, too: he’s appeared on Conan and SNL, and does stand-up comedy on the side, which makes his ability to balance Takemura’s intensity with moments of dry humor even more impressive.
Number 8 is Kerry Eurodyne, voiced by Matthew Yang King. Kerry is a returning character from the original Cyberpunk tabletop games, a former guitarist for the legendary band Samurai, and a romance option for male V. King captures Kerry’s mix of rockstar swagger and deep-seated regret perfectly—he sounds like someone who’s seen the worst of Night City, lost his best friend (Johnny Silverhand), and is still trying to find his purpose. King is a multi-talented performer: he’s done voice work for Love, Death & Robots, acted as Marty Mantle in Riverdale, and has a long list of credits in games and animation.
Next at number 7 is Jackie Welles, voiced by Jason Hightower. Jackie is your first friend in Night City, the warm, loyal merc who has your back on your earliest jobs, and his death early in the game is one of the most emotional moments in the entire story. Hightower’s voice is so perfect for Jackie—he sounds like a guy who’d buy you a beer, joke with you, and then die for you without a second thought. Hightower has lent his voice to tons of Western animations, including Ralph Breaks the Internet, Kid Cosmic, and Victor & Valentino.
Number 6 is Judy Alvarez, voiced by Carla Tassara. Judy is a core character in the main story, a braindance technician and member of the Mox gang, and a romance option for female V. Tassara’s voice is soft but fierce, perfectly capturing Judy’s vulnerability and her determination to protect the people she loves. Tassara is a voice acting veteran with credits in Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 4, God of War: Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West.
At number 5 is Panam Palmer, voiced by Emily Woo Zeller. Panam is an ex-nomad and a romance option for V, and her questline is one of the most beloved in the game—full of action, humor, and heart. Zeller’s voice is rough around the edges but warm, making Panam feel like a real, relatable person. Zeller is best known for voicing Saber in Fate/Stay Night, and she’s also had small roles in Pokemon and The Last of Us Part II.
Number 4 is Johnny Silverhand, voiced by Keanu Reeves. Johnny is the iconic rockerboy trapped in V’s head, and Reeves’ performance is instantly recognizable. He captures Johnny’s rebellious spirit, his anger at Arasaka, and his underlying loneliness perfectly. Reeves is a global superstar, known for roles in The Matrix, John Wick, and Speed, and his casting as Johnny was a huge part of the game’s marketing.
Next at number 3 is Solomon Reed, voiced by Idris Elba. Reed is the central character of the Phantom Liberty DLC, a mysterious NUSA agent who recruits V for a dangerous mission. Elba’s voice is deep, commanding, and full of tension, making Reed feel like a man with a lot of secrets. Elba is an A-list actor, known for roles in The Wire, Luther, and the MCU’s Heimdall.
Number 2 is male V, voiced by Gavin Drea. Drea’s performance is the backbone of the game for anyone who plays as male V—he captures the character’s desperation, humor, and resilience perfectly. Drea has also voiced Flann Sinna in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and played Eadric Streona in Vikings: Valhalla.
And finally, at number 1 is female V, voiced by Cherami Leigh. Leigh’s performance is so iconic that many players choose female V just to hear her voice. She perfectly captures every emotion V goes through—from the excitement of landing a big job to the terror of knowing you’re dying. Leigh is a well-known voice actor, with roles in My Hero Academia, Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Every single one of these voice actors brings something special to their roles, making Night City feel like a place I never want to leave. Whether you’re playing through the main story for the first time or replaying it to unlock a different ending, take a second to appreciate the talent behind the voices—they’re a huge part of what makes Cyberpunk 2077 one of the best games ever made.
